This is the closing event of the Creating Connections project. Wanda, Kate and Lindsey invite you to join us online to view a film of the three workshops held in Venice, Llandudno and Brighton, after which we’ll be joined in a round table discussion of the project with an invited panel of guests including Margaret Wilson, professor of Theatre and Dance at Univeristy of Wyoming, Sara Houston, Professor of Dance at University of Roehampton, Laura Delfini, choreologist, DES - Danza Educazione Società , Joana Haigood, Artistic Director of Zaccho Dance Theatre, San Francisco, Kat Ball, freelance disabled dancer and Daniela Essart, Artistic Director of Scarabeus Aerial Theatre, UK. We’ll make sure to leave time at the end for any questions you might want to bring.
Building on the previous collaborative practice of Wanda Moretti, Kate Lawrence and Lindsey Butcher, ‘Creating Connections’ draws on the participatory spirit and inventiveness of experimental dance work undertaken in 1970’s New York that laid the foundations for vertical dance.
Using task-based approaches, e.g. those developed by Trisha Brown, Simone Forti, Robert Morris, we address questions around participation and inclusion in our practice; of including different publics in our work.
Across three meetings, aerial design artist Mish Weaver has responded with simple propositions. The objects introduced will be designed to encourage cooperation, trust, playful exploration and support.
