“What secrets do we leave in our beds?”
10 visual artists currently incarcerated at the Central California Women’s Facility at Chowchilla tell their story in their own way, reflecting the sanctity of women’s private lives.
“No matter the mistakes I make, my bed accepts me for who I am; it appreciates all I do...I can take off my clothes, drama, armor, problems, and drop my responsibilities to focus—unlocking my day, examining my circle, reflecting on my overtime work—being all I can be.” - Curator, Tomiekia Johnson
Donate Today to support Flyaway’s interdisciplinary project, IF I GIVE YOU MY SORROWS. The project hosts new site specific dance and The Only Door I Can Open, a visual art exhibition curated from within the prison by Tomiekia Johnson and Chantell Gosztyla.
Presented in coalition with Museum of African Diaspora, Ear Hustle’s Rahsaan Thomas, and Empowerment Avenue. |
