Paying it Forward - Supporting New Vertical Dance Artistry

20th Anniversary Founder’s Award

Are you an emerging or mid-career dance artist interested in developing your vertical dance practice? Apply for support to dance with Aeriosa.

Thanks to a generous private donation, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our 20th Anniversary Founder's Award which will cover the full registration fee for one emerging to mid-career dance artist to attend the Choreographic Lab. This generous gifts makes space for a new workshop attendee, especially impactful for someone who may be experiencing a financial barrier, to join us on earth, in air, and develop their own vertical dance work.

How to Apply

All artists who would like to be considered for the award can apply by submitting their Bio or CV to registration@aeriosa.com along with a few sentences describing what you hope to gain by taking part in the Choreographic Lab.

Please reach out to registration@aeriosa.com if you have any questions.

Come Dance with Trees in Tofino - Save the Date

Mark your Calendar

May 23rd & 24th the company is returning to Tofino to lead a weekend of community tree dance classes inviting Families, Youth and Adults to dance with Aeriosa and the tall Sitka Spruce at n̓an̓aquuʔa. n̓an̓aquuʔa [nah-nah-kuu-ah] is the traditional Nuu-chah-nulth name for North Chesterman Beach in Tofino, BC, located within the traditional Ha-Houlthee of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations.

Following the weekend classes, from May 25th-29th participants can opt to join company artists for daily afternoon practice sessions culminating in a workshop showing of material created by and for the group. Alongside the participant showcase, Aeriosa will be presenting new choreography by Julia Taffe and company artists.

This activity is supported by the District of Tofino. Aeriosa is a Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Park Ally.

Julia will also be meeting with Ebony R. Gooden, who played The Rose and other characters in The Little Prince - A Physical Theatre Adaptation by Landon Krentz at Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto last year. Ebony is an emerging artist, filmmaker and activist who believes it is important to create a safe space for Black, Indigenous and Racialized Artists in Calgary. Her unique voice has intersectionality layers, which allow her to show hearing people what it is like to be Deaf and Black.

Julia and Ebony felt a strong spark of creative kinship during The Little Prince production, and they are looking forward to spending time together and planning future collaborations. Stay tuned.
