Dear friend,
Last week, we shared about Flyaway’s 2025 production of DOWN ON THE CORNER at 111 Taylor, a historic building with a radical legacy.
This week, I’m writing to share Flyaway’s coalition partner on the project: the TurkxTaylor Initiative.
A collective of architects, artists, city planners, and historians, TxT is dedicated to bringing about a change of use for the building at 111 Taylor Street, working in collaboration with trans activists, community members, and formerly incarcerated people negatively impacted by GEO Group.
DOWN ON THE CORNER began when we received an invitation from TxT to sign a letter in support of uprooting the Geo-owned building. From that letter, our relationship has grown into an active partnership, with shared planning for how public art can advance our political goals.
This project is an unprecedented opportunity to amplify TurkxTaylor’s campaign to conjure a future of liberation. By including a large-scale, multimedia project on the building, we believe the movement and visuals will “unsettle the structure” and bring attention to this historical site. We aim to employ our collective imagination and creativity to disrupt and reconfigure oppressive societal frameworks.
The TxT initiative invited our support and now we’re inviting you.
Support the creation of “dance that lifts you up” by donating via mail or online. Every dollar given is a pledge toward the fight for collective liberation. |
