Flying Home is an immersive dance theater piece created by the Martin Dance Collective. Inspired by Virginia Hamilton’s retelling of the folktale The People Could Fly, the piece looks at ideas of home, freedom, and belonging. We ask what does it mean to be “at home”? How does that feeling grow and change over time? And how are home and freedom connected?
Featured Performers include Angela Arnold, Coral Martin, and Jetta Martin.
Please join us for a Q and A and reception following the show. Flying Homeprovides the audience with an opportunity to engage interactively with the piece. Should audience members want to take advantage of this opportunity, they'll need to remove their shoes so they can walk around and observe the piece from the stage.
Performers are asking that all audience members be masked during the event. We will have masks available at the door if you forget yours!
If you're interested in sharing any of your writing about home with Jetta and Coral for a chance to have your work featured in the show, please submit HERE.
This event is supported through Zaccho Dance Theatre's Black Futures Artist-in-Residence Program with funding provided by the City of San Francisco’s Dream Keeper Initiative and Office of Economic & Workforce Development, and the San Francisco Arts Commission. |
