BANDALOOP will present its latest large scale vertical dance work LOOM:FIELD which brings together a collection of performing artists, regenerative textile artists, a sustainable strategist, and creative riggers to interweave ancestral weaving mythologies and traditional techniques of fabric creation with the ecological and social impacts of a globalized textile industry.
Choreography for LOOM:FIELD was developed by Artistic Director Melecio Estrella and the BANDALOOP dancers Jose Abad, Becca Dean, Rose Huey, Sarah Keeney, Courtney Moreno, Wailana Simcock, and Samuel-Melecio Zambrano. Collaborators include ninth-generation Nigerian weaver and costume designer IB Bayo, theater artist Chibueze Crouch, vocalist Destani Wolf, composer Ben Juodvalkis, lighting designer Jim French, and sustainability strategist Catherine Botrill.
The result of this multi-layered collaboration is an evening of dance theater featuring spoken word, vertical dance, fabric manipulation, film segments, and original music. As vertical dance is a form that relies on state-of-the-science woven nylon climbing ropes, LOOM:FIELD locates BANDALOOP’s core technical framework in a textile lineage.
