Aerial Dance for Camera Courses & Intensives 2021

Did you, like us, find yourself drawn to making films during lockdown to share your art? Or wishing you had the skills to do so? Maybe you were pondering how aerial dance on camera changes how we think about our audiences and choreography?

If so, then these courses are for you. We have two of the most experienced tutors in the field, each offering a different approach, ready to share their expertise with you.

There's a mix of in-person and remote online learning to cater for those nearby and across the world. Hopefully there's something for you.

Moving Body / Moving Image

26 July - 20 August 2021

Find the joy of creating movement work for screen with critically acclaimed dance for screen artist Becky Edmunds.

Explore movement in the frame, relationship to camera, choreographic editing, and how sound can emphasise the visual experience.

Delivered over 4 weeks through practical exercises, individual and group tasks online, targeted reading and watching, plus group and individual feedback.

Practical Aerial Dance for Camera Intensive

Sat 28 - Sun 29 August 2021


Delve into developing aerial dance screen language in-person over 2-days at Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts, Brighton, with screen dance and circus arts film supremos Marisa Zanotti and Mark Morreau.

Look at and discuss how aerial skills, vertical dance and bodies in-flight are represented in culture over time.  

Practically explore documentation strategies, technical set ups, lo fi opportunities and hacks, and practical considerations for project development.

Aerial Dances, Screen Bodies & Emotional Materials

 

Weekends, 4 Sept - 3 Oct 2021


Explore how aerial dance and skills can be translated for screens. Investigate the role of embodied perception in filmmaking, the body as a material, and how cinematic concepts invite new ways of thinking choreographically. Develop a making-for-screen practice.

Led by award-winning director, writer and performer Marisa Zanotti across 4x weekend intensives in September/October.

Delivered through practical exercises, individual and group tasks online, targeted reading and watching, plus group and individual feedback.
