WHAT IS GIRLFLY? A PAID SUMMER APPRENCTICESHIP that brings 15 young women from the Bay Area to:
Get hands-on experience in contemporary and site specific dance, making dances at Quesada and Bridgeview Gardens in the Bayview District of SF Earn $500 Create original dances for performance and a documentary film (new this year) Learn from with working with professional dance artists Learn about issues of community empowerment and social justice Make an activism video, working with Cynthia Blancaflor, Founder of Rising Star Productions Connect with young women across neighborhoods, schools, ethnicity, and sexual orientation
WHO IS IT FOR?
Young women ages 14-19 who are strongly interested in performing, making positive change in the world and can commit to attending the entire 4 weeks of the program. African American, Arab, Latina, Native, Asian and Pacific Islander, low-income and LGBT-identified women are strongly encouraged to apply. Dance experience is helpful.
WHAT’S THE SCHEDULE?
The program is 4 weeks long and meets as follows:
STARTS Monday June 29th ENDS Saturday July 25th Meets Monday-Friday 10AM-2PM (no session on July 3th) MANDATORY Two performances Saturday July 25th at 12PM and 2PM
