GIRLFLY 2025 Performances

July 31, 2025
Thursday, 5PM + 6:30pm
(same show runs twice)

Space 124 and Jack Hammer Park

We are in the midst of making GIRLFLY 2025 happen. Join us on July 31 for our final performances, featuring dance performances by 20 youth in the city. We are working with both steel and actual umbrellas, flying, spinning, and creating space where youth can feel belonging. We can’t wait for you to see their work.

Shows run at 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM, with a pre-show historical introduction each night at 7:15

Honoring the site of the 1966 Compton’s Cafeteria Riot; conjuring its liberation and a just transition for the future.

Flyaway notes with tremendous sorrow the passing of Shakiri. She was one of the most inspiring artists in the Bay Area. She led with joy, invention, charisma and a sharp political mind. She taught with Jo for over 30 years at ZACCHO’s youth program and is an ongoing inspiration for how we think about teaching dance to youth. Fly high, Shakiri, as you cross over…
