Dear Loopers,
BANDALOOP is honored to be among artists who commit to beauty and awe in our intense global climate. For us, 2024 is a time to double down on care for ourselves, each other and the art we cultivate.
We started the year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia celebrating Arab cultural icons at the Joy Awards and dancing on the windswept desert cliffs at the Edge of the World. Riding this power of Nature, we went to work at the La Jolla Playhouse in California for the premiere of REDWOOD, a new musical written and directed by Tony-nominated and Drama Desk-winning theater-maker Tina Landau and staring Broadway titan Idina Menzel. It was incredible to contribute vertical staging and choreography to help tell a story of grief, transformation and wonder in the presence of ancient Redwood giants.
And now we flow into a touring season around water - Premiering “Downstream” at the Green Music Center in Northern California April 19th, with previews at the WOW Festival in La Jolla, CA, and at the Dallas Arts District in Texas. Our creative team is mapping stories from local waterways and working with ecological watershed thinkers on themes of channelization, saturation, flooding and restoration. So in our BANDALOOPing way, we are listening to the planet and we are dancing for life, and we invite you to join us.
