Portrait and Landscape
features Joanna Haigood on October 6th
Portrait and Landscape is a series of online bi-monthly events, conceived by Wanda Moretti in collaboration with Kate Lawrence and Lindsey Butcher. Over the course of 2021, some of the world's leading vertical dance choreographers will propose a series of 'gifts' for our vertical dance community, comprised of a varied set of interventions: presentations, videos, practical lessons. They will also introduce a next generation vertical dance artist to present their work at each meeting.
On October 6, 2021, online at 10:00 am PST Zaccho Dance Theatre's Artistic Director Joanna Haigood will join Portrait and Landscape with "Site." During this presentation Joanna Haigood will speak about how site and place have informed her creative process and inspired the integration of aerial dance into her work’s spatial design and narrative content. From ritual ceremonies to busking to highly produced performance events, artists and communities have been expressing their experience and shaping actions in relationship to site for thousands of years. Sites are chosen for a variety of reasons; some for historic importance, some for their ability to accommodate ideas and structures, some for their natural beauty or devastation, and some for their resonance of past lives, known and unknown.
