Our next Behind the Scenes spotlight is Barry Wilson!
Barry is a phenomenal part of our Blue Lapis Light team. We would not be able to dance on the buildings and structures we have performed on without his expertise, knowledge and leadership with the rigging team. Once we visit a site Barry sketches and designs where and how the rigging will be implemented, what equipment needs to be rented and how it will be hauled up onto the roof! Walking across the roof and seeing how this is all done is incredible to witness. Every site we are on requires detailed planning and each is different.
Barry is an expert rock climber with over 30 years of experience, in addition to 45 years in the construction industry. He served on the Central Texas climbing committee for 14 years and has knowledge of rock climbing resources and the placement of fixed protection at Enchanted Rock. He and our team of riggers are the first ones on site before we start rehearsals to set up ropes and ensure safety of all rigging connections. The rigging team checks dancers' harnesses to notify them of any issues they need to know before going over the edge.
He is a remarkable person with a giant heart, extraordinary skills and is beloved by all of us at BLL.
