Blue Lapis Light

Dear Blue Lapis Light Family,

In honor of Women's History Month we are shining the spotlight on one of Blue Lapis Light's most cherished and etherial performers.

Since joining Blue Lapis Light in 2003 Nicole Whiteside has served as associate artistic director, performer, choreographer, rigger, and instructor. When asked about her experience, here's what she had to say:

"When I was a child, I always wanted to fly. I wanted to see the world from a new perspective. This is Blue Lapis Light to me- being in the world with new perspective, seeing the possibility of transformation, like turning the IRS building into angels' playground. What, whoa?! This is what I imagine people say, when they see us dancing on buildings. It's something reminding you of limitless possibilities.

I'm so thankful for Sally's vision where the seemingly unimaginable becomes possible. Her quest for peace and compassion created a company where friendship, dedication and love soar through the skies. I'm thankful to Austin, Salado, Charlotte, and Pittsburgh for embracing our unique site-specific artwork, giving myself and other artists the platform to dance across the cityscape.

I love dance. I love how bodies tell a story. I love the work, sweat, precision and vulnerability required to see a dance through to the end. Like myself, there are many of us who need to move together, to share space, to share in good music and in connection with a common purpose."

We are profoundly grateful for Nicole's dedication to Blue Lapis Light over the years.

In Peace,
