Dissecting Aerial '19
2-day symposium about healthier aerial practice
The Point, 19-20 Jan 2019
We are thrilled to be presenting the second edition of our healthier aerial practice symposium, Dissecting Aerial
(DA), with our partners One Dance UK
and The Point
. We’ll be announcing the full 2-day programme soon but speakers will include:
Bookings open 5th November 2018.
Aerial Teacher Training
Bookings are now open for (count them) THREE aerial teacher training courses in Brighton with Serenity Forchion Smith:
The Teachers Gathering will be the 1st hosted in the UK and will be driven by your requests. Across the 2-days, expect workshops for shared enquiry, learning and inspiration. Bookings are open and discounts available.
As we mark the companies 15th year it seems fitting to revisit our beginnings. G&L will be back into the studio to remake their award-winning vertical dance duet WHY with its original cast and creators. Choreographed by Fin Walkerwith composer Ben Park and danced by Lee Clayden and Lindsey Butcher, WHY won the Jerwood Circus Award in 2004 and was the keystone to the company's formation. Applying a decade and a half of experience, knowledge, creative practice and, of course, more ‘mature’ bodies, we’re excited to see and share what the resulting piece will be. Keep your eyes peeled for touring dates.
Vertical Dance Forum 5
Lindsey is recently back from the fourth Vertical Dance Forum
meeting in Zadar, Croatia where the focus was on ‘Vertical Dance training in new territories
’. Working with 25 dancers ranging in experience from beginner through to advanced across 3 sites, it was a great way to lay the foundations for establishing vertical dance practice in Croatia.
We are also delighted that VDF have been awarded ACE
funding which, alongside our Creative Europe funding, will support VDF 5, ‘Alternative Perspectives and Accessible Aerial
’. G&L will be hosting this event at The Point
, 20-25 Jan 2019. This edition will focus on working with D/deaf and disabled artists.
10th EADF, 5-17 August 2019
We will be celebrating the 10th
edition of the European Aerial Dance Festival next year, which will run 5-17 August 2019. Get it in your diaries now!
Also, just a reminder that with Christmas (groan) just around the corner, our lovely sponsors Firetoys
are still offering customers a whopping 10% discount on purchases when you quote the code ‘10for10’
. Amazing huh? AND it doesn’t end there... each time someone uses the ‘10for10’
donates 10% of the sale to the European Aerial Dance Festival so we can keep subsidising our world-class festival for you all! Win, win!
It’s just over a month since Lindsey
returned from directing this year's PANAMÁ AÉREA
choreographic lab and what a joyous process that was. Working with 17 gorgeous, talented, generous international artists, together they created 2 site-responsive shows in as many days. Here are just a few photographs from the process taken by the wonderful Alegre Sapaorta
. Huge thanks to Eleanora Dall’ Asta for hosting and organising.
