Join us for A Site-Specific Workshop with Sally Jacques
T he Site-Specific Workshop with Sally Jacques offers insight into the making and creating of work in a non-traditional environment. Students participate directly on-site, collaborating and experiencing the process of site-specific dance. During the workshop, participants learn techniques on a 48 foot wide and 25-foot high scaffold structure. This workshop is led by award-winning and founder of Blue Lapis Light, Sally Jacques.
Sally Jacques, founder of Blue Lapis Light, creates site-specific aerial dance works that speak to social, political and spiritual dilemmas. Sally has been creating site-specific performances and dances in non-traditional sites for 30 years. Along with being the recipient of many grants, Jacques is a featured choreographer in the recently published book "Site Dance" (University Press of Florida). She was included in the 2006 "Faces of Austin" installation at the Austin City Hall. In the following year of 2007, Jacques was inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame and later was nominated for a United States Artists Fellowship in 2008. Her work has been cited in publications around the globe and her performances have been featured on PBS. Her own book, "64 Beds and other Site Works", was
published in 1996.
