This course is a 5 day overview to the art of teaching trapeze and aerial fabric, with a focus on spotting techniques, injury prevention, psychology of teaching, basic rigging concepts and class management. This in depth and holistic approach to teaching is appropriate for new teachers and those with experience, and for those who work with youth or adults in a variety of educational environments including circus schools, gymnastics programs, summer camps, fitness studios and more. This workshop is required for application to the Nimble Arts™ Certification Course, a multi level program guiding participants to become safe and capable circus arts teachers for both the hearts and bodies of their students.

All students are expected to prepare by successfully completing the elements in the required Nimble Arts™ DVD: Aerial fabric: Beginning Level 1 prior to the start of the workshop. Trapeze experience is not necessary but it will make your journey easier.

Instructor Biographies:
Serenity Smith Forchion is co-founder of the New England Center for Circus Arts as well as the performance company Nimble Arts. Together with her twin sister, Elsie, she performed for Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco and her performing resume includes Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey, the New Pickle Circus, Cirque Productions, Cirque Le Masque, Sandglass Theater and TV and corporate appearances.
Serenity has taught and choreographed for many companies including Pilobolus, Cirque duSoleil, Canopy Aerial Dance Studio, Circus Smirkus and Canobie Lake Amusement Park.
Serenity helped found San Francisco‘s Circus Center and was Pilates captain for Saltimbanco where she worked with physical therapists to promote injury prevention.
Serenity & her sister maintain teaching, coaching and performing careers and recently developed their own cirque show for touring called RUCKUS: A Cirque Spectacular

Lindsey Butcher. Since graduating from London School of Contemporary Dance, over the past 29 years Lindsey has worked with numerous dance, opera, circus, physical and street theatre companies both in the UK and internationally as a dancer, aerialist, teacher, aerial advisor and choreographer.
In 2003, Lindsey founded her own aerial dance company ‘Gravity & Levity’ – a project based company who have to date toured two major theatre productions – ‘Taking Flight’ & ‘Shift’ and one outdoor show, ‘Siren Song’.
Spring 2014 will see the company premiering their new production ‘Rites of War’ with director/choreographer Darshan Singh Bhuller.
Lindsey has been running the European Aerial Dance Festival now for 4 years and this year ran a Paralympic Aerial legacy Intensive for Deaf and disabled participants.
