As we mark the companies 15th year it seems fitting to revisit our beginnings. G&L will be back into the studio to remake their award-winning vertical dance duet WHYwith its original cast and creators. Choreographed byFin Walkerwith composerBen Parkand danced byLee ClaydenandLindsey Butcher, WHYwon the Jerwood Circus Award in 2004 and was the keystone to the company's formation. Applying a decade and a half of experience, knowledge, creative practice and, of course, more ‘mature’ bodies, we’re excited to see and share what the resulting piece will be. Keep your eyes peeled for touring dates.
Lindsey is recently back from the fourth Vertical Dance Forummeeting in Zadar, Croatia where the focus was on ‘Vertical Dance training in new territories’. Working with 25 dancers ranging in experience from beginner through to advanced across 3 sites, it was a great way to lay the foundations for establishing vertical dance practice in Croatia.
We are also delighted that VDF have been awarded ACEfunding which, alongside our Creative Europe funding, will support VDF 5, ‘Alternative Perspectives and Accessible Aerial’. G&L will be hosting this event atThe Point, 20-25 Jan 2019. This edition will focus on working with D/deaf and disabled artists.
We will be celebrating the 10thedition of the European Aerial Dance Festival next year, which will run 5-17 August 2019. Get it in your diaries now!
Also, just a reminder that with Christmas (groan) just around the corner, our lovely sponsors Firetoysare still offering customers a whopping 10% discount on purchases when you quote the code‘10for10’. Win, win!
It’s just over a month sinceLindseyreturned from directing this year'sPANAMÁ AÉREA choreographic lab and what a joyous process that was. Working with 17 gorgeous, talented, generous international artists, together they created 2 site-responsive shows in as many days. Here are just a few photographs from the process taken by the wonderfulAlegre Sapaorta. Huge thanks to Eleanora Dall’ Asta for hosting and organising.
