BLUE LAPIS LIGHT: A LOOK BACK
Many of you have likely seen a scaffolding piece from Blue Lapis Light in the last decade (Edge of Grace, anyone?) but did you know that the first time we used site specific scaffolding was all the way back in ✨1998✨? The Austin Chronicle archived this iconic moment on its cover, marking a first for Sally Jacques and BLL 💙
Take a look at these performance and rehearsal shots from the inception of - as it would come to be known - the Scaffold Trilogy. This first iteration, June 3-7, took place on St. Elmo Rd, officially titled Probe One: Impossible Destiny —
-The second, Probe 2: Trans/Form was held in an industrial warehouse on Cesar Chavez June 16-20 of 1999.
-The third, Blue Pearl: Scaffold Trilogy marked the end of the series in 2000, June 8-11 & 15-18, on Town Lake.
BONUS! Take a look at Sally herself, up in the air and dancing with steel!
Sally Jacques and Blue Lapis Light have been a part of Austin’s tapestry for decades (Sally’s earliest mention in the Austin American-Statesman dating back to 1981 for her activist performances across the city, using art and peaceful protest to advocate for human rights).
This September, 44 years later, you have the chance to see the world premiere of our latest large-scale sitework, Urban Dreaming: A Movement Opera✨ |
