Weekend Aerial Workshops at The Higher Space

The Higher Space, Liverpool's Centre for Aerial Excellence, has two special weekend workshops this November in collaboration with Wired Aerial Theatre:

Bungee-Assisted Dance Masterclass

Led by the Artistic Director of Wired, Wendy Hesketh-Ogilvie, this Masterclass weekend is

aimed at Professional movers working within the dance and/or aerial world. It will focus on

Bungee-Assisted Dance and how it can be used in conjunction with ground-based

performers. A professional development opportunity, this masterclass will support you to

learn, play, create and experiment with Bungee-Assisted Dance - a technique that has been

created, developed and refined for 16 years here at Wired Aerial Theatre.

Join Wired's expert tutors for a weekend combo workshop of our favorite harness

techniques - Bungee-Assisted Dance and Vertical Wall! Enjoy moments of flight and support

as you dive, leap and zoom through the air on our bungees in the morning, then focus your

thoughts and flip your world by 90° as you fly, bounce and leap across our tensioned fabric

wall in the afternoon.

Wired Aerial Theatre is really excited to open its doors at The Higher Space, our Centre for Aerial Excellence in Liverpool, for a special Taster Day on Sunday 23 October.

Designed to give you a little taste of all the wonderful things Wired Aerial Theatre offers, you can try your hand at aerial circus skills or turn your world 90° on our vertical wall.  Adults or juniors, there is something for everyone, all guided by our expert aerial tutors and all absolutely free.

There will also be a demonstration by some of our current young students, so you can see the wonderful things you can achieve here at The Higher Space.  We run courses throughout the year, and if you sign up at the Taster Day you'll receive 20% off regular prices.

GRAVITY & LEVITY

Course information: This is a 5 day overview to the art of teaching trapeze and aerial fabric, with a focus on spotting techniques, injury prevention, psychology of teaching, basic rigging concepts and class management. This in depth and holistic approach to teaching is appropriate for new teachers and those with experience, and for those who work with youth or adults in a variety of educational environments including circus schools, gymnastics programs, summer camps, fitness studios and more. This workshop is required for application to the Nimble Arts™ Certification Course, a multi level program guiding participants to become safe and capable circus arts teachers for both the hearts and bodies of their students. Age: Adult 16+ or permission of instructor. Instructor: Serenity Smith Forchion. Biography below. Pre requisites: All students are expected to prepare by successfully completing the elements in the required Nimble Arts™ DVD: Aerial fabric: Beginning Level 1 prior to the start of the workshop. Trapeze experience is not necessary but it will make your journey easier. Required materials: You must purchase the DVD Aerial Fabric: Beginning Level 1 in advance of the course. It can be purchased from Nimble Arts or Firetoys. All students are required to read and sign Gravity & Levity’s Terms and Conditions prior to the course commencing. Course cost: £600 The associated course book Aerial Circus Training & Safety Manual (by Carrie Heller) is included with your class registration. Booking: Bookings are open. Instructor Biography: Serenity Smith Forchion is co-founder of the New England Center for Circus Arts as well as the performance company Nimble Arts. Together with her twin sister, Elsie, she performed for Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco and her performing resume includes Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey, the New Pickle Circus, Cirque Productions, Cirque Le Masque, Sandglass Theater and TV and corporate appearances. Serenity has taught and choreographed for many companies including Pilobolus, Cirque duSoleil, Canopy Aerial Dance Studio, Circus Smirkus and Canobie Lake Amusement Park. Serenity helped found San Francisco‘s Circus Center and was Pilates captain for Saltimbanco where she worked with physical therapists to promote injury prevention. Serenity & her sister maintain teaching, coaching and performing careers and recently developed their own cirque show for touring called RUCKUS: A Cirque Spectacular www.ruckuscircus.com Serenity also performs acrobatics with her husband, Bill Forchion, and they reside in Vermont where they are human jungle gyms for their 3 children. www.nimblearts.org
