WIRED AERIAL THEATRE

THE BIG AUDITION 

DANCERS   |   AERIAL PERFORMERS   |   CLIMBERS

(ESPECIALLY MALE PERFORMERS WITH DANCE EXPERIENCE AND CLIMBING SKILLS) 

Wired Aerial Theatre is an internationally renowned aerial theatre company, based at The Higher Space in Liverpool. We create and tour a range of performance works as well as delivering specialist aerial consultancy for several companies, festivals and clients worldwide.
Having toured for over 10 years, we have amazed both local as well as international audiences, performing in festivals in the UK and abroad (including Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Australia and South Korea).
We have a lot of very exciting new opportunities in the pipeline for 2017-18, and are therefore inviting suitable experienced DANCERS, AERIAL PERFORMERS and CLIMBERS (especially male performers with dance experience and climbing skills) to join our team.
The main projects that you will be auditioning for include:
  • The outdoor large-scale touring of As The World Tipped. Directed by Nigel Jamieson, this show has been the headline of major festivals internationally as well as locally. With over 50 performances to date, As The World Tipped is set to continue in the following years, and we are now negotiating dates with a wide variety of international festivals for 2017 and 2018.   • A large-scale outdoor Opera project
  • A variety of one-off special commissions
  • A smaller-scale outdoor Bungee-Assisted Dance theatre show, currently in development, for presentation at UK and international festivals
  • A variety of educational and training activities

DANCERS AND AERIAL PERFORMERS

Wired is looking for exceptional, dynamic and experienced male and female performers, who have the following skills:
  • Training in a variety of dance techniques, including contemporary dance
  • Experience in highly physical work; contact, improvisation and partnering skills
  • Capability to dance with a grounded, strong and dynamic quality
  • Experience of / open to working with character work
  • Strong improvisational skills and ability to contribute to creative approaches
  • Willingness to travel to different performance sites
  • Comfortable working at height and performing in outdoor locations
Experience and knowledge of working in a harness would be an advantage (this includes rock climbing), as well as experience in performing at heights of around 30 metres. Training in Bungee-Assisted Dance and other necessary aerial techniques will be provided if required.
You must be a good team member and experienced at working under pressure.
Please note that, due to the nature of the work, we are looking for performers over the age of 25.

CLIMBERS

Wired is looking for experienced climbers with the following characteristics:
  • A good knowledge of a variety of climbing/mountaineering skills
  • Experience of lead climbing techniques
  • A good knowledge of a variety of climbing/mountaineering equipment
  • Self-motivated and keen to learn
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of technical situations
  • Have a good head for heights
  • Willingness to travel to different performance sites
The role will include a number of different activities from general rigging, lifting and installing equipment and set, counterbalance operations during rehearsals and performances and general safety awareness.
The successful candidate will be given in-house training specific to aerial theatre and the production(s).

WE ARE OFFERING

  • Contracts for performances in Turkey, France, Austria and other international cities
  • Various contracts for specific projects (these will vary in duration, going from a few days to several weeks)

  • Payment above Equity minimum
  • Salary dependent on skills and experience

  • We will get back to the shortlisted candidates on Friday 6th January 2017. The shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an audition day(s) at The Higher Space, Liverpool  between 11th-14th January 2017, where they will undertake a variety of practical skills, as well as an informal interview.
  • Please note that for one of the projects, and due to contract specification, candidates must be able to swim.

Rehearsals and performances: from March to September 2017
