The Evolution of Aerial Evolution with Rowan Metzner
We looked up what aerial podcasts existed and were shocked to find a gaping hole.
history of aerial and aerial dance and was baffled at how little there was to find. There are a couple of books, but if you google the history of snowboarding, for example there are pages and pages of links to books and articles, but for aerial few. Something needed to be done. Since aerial is born out of an oral tradition, I decided to start Aerial Evolution, a podcast where guests could come on and tell their own stories as well as the history as they know it.
This podcast is a living archive of stories and a way to start larger conversation in the community. It is a place to capture the early history, how aerial has evolved over the years, and where it is going.
In addition to discussing the history and evolution of aerial, recurring topics explored are the distinctions between aerial dance, vertical dance and circus, festivals, inclusivity, teaching styles, safety, and so much more.
Professional aerialist, Jane Rose, helped get Aerial Evolution up and running lending her unique perspective as Co-Host this season as we interviewed some of the women who made aerial what it is today. The podcast is still in its infancy and, as with aerial, will continue to grow and adapt. Next season, in addition to continuing to welcome influential guests, the podcast will be evolving. We just launched a website with with community message boards and a chat function to help foster connection and discussion. You can also reach us on our Facebook and Instagram pages @aerialevolutionpod and the podcast itself is available wherever you listen to podcasts, or on the links below.
